Greetings All,

Home Going Service for Sis. Linda Bacon-Henson will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Rising Star MBC, 2800 E. 36th Street. Interment will be at South Lawn. The Repast will be held at Rising Star MBC in the Cole Fellowship Hall. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

REGISTER TO VOTE IN TIME FOR THE MAY 16 ELECTION - The City of Tucson is asking voters to consider a half-cent sales tax increase to fund road repairs and police and fire capital needs on the May 16 ballot measure known as Proposition 101. Proposition 101 would end after five years and generate approximately $250 million in revenue that would be used to resurface city streets and replace ambulances, fire trucks, patrol cars and life saving police and fire equipment. Residents with a valid Arizona driver's license can register on EZ Voter through the Arizona Department of Transportation's Motor Vehicle Division website. The Pima County Recorder's Office also provides voter registration and access to the Permanent Early Voter List. Links to both agencies are listed below.

TUCSON CITY COUNCIL TO GET UPDATE ON DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT PLAN - The Mayor and Tucson City Council today will hear the results of the Independent Financial and Economic Analysis for the proposed La Placita Village demolition and redevelopment. If the Council approves, City staff will draft a GPLET (Government Property Lease Excise Tax) lease agreement with HSL La Placita Apartments LLC. The lease agreement will then be scheduled for adoption by Mayor and Council at a future date. The analysis shows the benefit to the City of Tucson, Pima County, the State of Arizona, and local schools would outweigh the benefit to the developer during the GPLET's eight-year property tax abatement. State law requires that a municipality can only enter into a lease agreement for a GPLET if the total benefit to governments and schools is larger than the benefit to the developer. This requirement does not apply to projects where the predominate use is residential, but the La Placita project still meets that requirement. HSL says the project would create 150 construction jobs that pay between $30,000 to $65,000. The proposed development would include 246 market-rate apartments. Construction is expected to cost an estimated $42 million and take 28 months to complete. The project would double the number of market-rate rental units built in downtown since 2013. Tucson News

CITY TESTING FOR LEAD IN HOMES WITH CHILDREN - The City of Tucson is using a $2.9 million federal grant to help an estimated 180 low-income homeowners with children under 6 years old abate lead paint hazards from their homes built before 1978. The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes. The City of Tucson Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is working with a number of community partners during the three-year program. The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) reports 70 percent of Tucson is within high-risk zip codes where children should be screened for lead poisoning. Arizona Public Media recently followed a contracted inspector using a special X-ray fluorescence tool to test for lead buried in layers of paint. The testing eliminates the need for scraping off paint samples and sending them to a lab. You can hear the story by following the link below.
